Ask any guy, if he notices a beautiful girl at a establishment he frequents, in his mind she is his girlfriend. Every time he visits, he falls a little more in love with said girl. He reminds his friends that he's going to see his girl, he asks everyone at the table for their opinions, and he even makes a point to make eye contact with the girl every time he visits.
I am that guy. And last night, after stalking for a year and a half, I finally took my girl on a date. A real one. And I'm happy to report, it went as well as it could have. I'm in love. See, sometimes in life you're given little presents, but they aren't like the presents you receive on christmas or your birthday, they don't come wrapped up in paper with a tag on it announcing to all that see "I'm a present, I'm a gift". No, sometimes these gifts come hidden in simple words, nothing special, no announcement, no press release, no fan fare. These gifts come when you're least expecting it and they make everything that much better.
Last night I got one of these gifts. It arrived mid way through dinner (which was sushi and damn it was good), I had just shared in a sake shot with my date and the owner of the sushi bar, we both looked down, made eye contact and restarted our conversation (lets see if you can spot the present)...
Date: "So how old are you?"
Me: "Twenty six."
Date: "..."
Me: "And you're 19, right?"
Date: "Almost." <---- RIGHT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!
If I would have had a ring in my pocket I would have fallen to my knee and taken her hand in marriage that very moment. Fortunately for me, my bank account and again me, I didn't. But mark my word: I'm in love. With an 18 year old. And I'm never letting her go. Until she's 20.
